All ABoard: improving our outdoor areas for play and learning
Creating outdoor spaces that inspire learning, creativity, and play, giving every child the chance to explore, connect, and thrive
"Our children thrive when they have the space to explore and challenge themselves" says Mrs Barnes. That's why we want to overhaul our outdoor spaces to provide great places to play... and learn!
There's a lot for us to focus on here:
Trim-Trail in KS2 area: we plan to install a fun, safe, and challenging play area for students to support physical development
Performance Area / Quiet Area: Mayfield believes in learning beyond the classroom walls, so we want to create a dedicated outdoor learning and performance space that will foster confidence, creativity, and teamwork
Sensory Garden: a tranquil sensory garden will provide a calming, engaging space for all students to enjoy and learn from nature
Getting shipshape: our grounds are huge. We'll support the school gardener by organising Shipshape Sessions, where families are invited to get stuck in and help out - our first one is Saturday 29 March. Sign up here!
Facilitating learning: we’ll add seating, equipment, and resources to make outdoor spaces more inviting and practical - from seating for the outdoor classroom and shaded areas on the field, to picnic blankets for summer learning.
Here are some of the ways you can help:
Do you work at a garden centre, building supply company, or similar business who may be able to support us? If so, please let us know. It would be great to chat about how we can approach them!
Volunteer to help at our Shipshape Sessions (or register your interest in helping out in the future). We have two dates upcoming for Shipshape sessions - Saturday 29 March and Saturday 3 May
Donate to our campaign - all funds will be used to get us to our £80,000 target and help us improve the school-life for our families
